Qing Dynasty Chinese Yoke back Officials Hat Chairs
Qing Dynasty Chinese Yoke back Officials Hat Chairs
This is a very handsome and sumptous pair of Qing dynasty (1644-1912) Yoke back officials hat chairs. The pair is constructed of Chinese pear, Huanghuali ('yellow flowering pear'), or huali is from the rosewood family. The colours range from a reddish brown to golden yellow and has a sweet fragrance. The finest examples have abstract patterns like ghost’s faces in the translucent shimmering surface. The surface of the chairs has a warm patina existing over the lacquered surfaces. The crest rail of the back extends beyond the rear stiles which adds a stunning effect which matches the flowing lines in the arms. The legs are connected with double stretchers on the right and left and a single in the rear. One foot rest stretcher connects the font right and left feet. The square seat is a single floating panel.
