18th Century Chippendale English Mantel Mirror from the estate of Lord Hillingdon

18th Century Chippendale English Mantel Mirror from the estate of Lord Hillingdon

$2,000.00

Featured is a very unique and handsome mantel mirror in the traditional Chippendale style. The three mirrored glass panels mounted in the frame or the originals and have a nice worn look to the silvering on the back of the glass. All three are mounted inside the hand carved Spanish Mahogany frame. The inset border of parcel-gilt wood is finely aged and presents a nice contrast against the dark aged Mahogany. The upper and lower scroll cut mounted panels have also nicely aged and the Spanish Mahogany has darkened to a warm tone. All of the scroll work is intact with no breaks or missing portions. The upper central is crowned with a gilt phoenix in the traditional style. The back of the mirror is lined with pine boards which are still in tact and have not been disturbed since they were set in place. The rear of the mirror is tagged with a label which confirms the provenance of belonging to Lord Hillingdon of Overstrand Hall in Norwich England. This is a rare find.
